The 39th Annual Conference kicks off with a Welcome Event on Thursday, April 11th.   • Eye-contact: To Teach or Not to Teach. That Is Not the Question (In-Person Only)

Looking at people’s faces is crucial for social learning and is considered an important measure of social cognition. It plays an essential role in early intervention programs aimed at modifying a child’s developmental trajectory and establishing social and verbal behavior. Understanding the behavior of looking at people’s eyes and its controlling variables is crucial to establishing eye contact as a reinforcer in young children with autism. This presentation offers a conceptual analysis of the behavior of looking to produce contact with the eyes as a reinforcer, along with video examples.
